The value of feedback: supporting people as they continue to grow
In any organisation, understanding how people are doing and how they are progressing in their work is essential to providing the right support. Regular check-ins are not just about reviewing objectives or assessing results. They are also about creating opportunities to listen, exchange perspectives and identify what can help each person continue to grow.
At ARENA, we see feedback as a way of supporting people that is embedded in how we work and how we connect with our Areners. That is why we hold regular follow-up meetings throughout the year, giving us the opportunity to understand their day-to-day experiences, what is working well and where we can offer support.
Looking beyond performance
Follow-up meetings provide an opportunity to discuss performance, but also to address other aspects of each person’s day-to-day experience. How they feel within their team, whether they are facing difficulties in their role, what their expectations are and which areas they feel could be improved are just some of the topics that may come up during these conversations.
Maintaining this dialogue throughout the year helps us identify needs earlier and gives people a space to raise concerns, share their perspectives and suggest changes they believe could help them improve.
Recognition is also part of feedback
When we talk about feedback, we often associate it with areas for improvement. However, these conversations also give us the opportunity to recognise each person’s progress, strengths and contributions.
Acknowledging a job well done, positive development or an attitude that benefits the team helps reinforce the behaviours and values we want to continue building on. Recognition is also an essential part of development, as it helps people identify their strengths and understand the value they bring to the organisation.
At ARENA, we aim to bring both perspectives into these conversations: the areas where we can continue to improve and the achievements that deserve recognition.
Listening to identify opportunities
A feedback conversation can open up new possibilities: identifying a training need, recognising a specific challenge, exploring a new responsibility or simply understanding what someone needs to feel more comfortable and confident in their role.
That is why, within People & Culture, we believe it is particularly important to listen before proposing solutions. Everyone has different circumstances, needs and career paths. Understanding these differences allows us to provide support that is better suited to each individual.
Our goal is not for everyone to follow the same path, but to help each person develop their potential within ARENA and find the tools they need to do so.
Feedback as part of our culture
Feedback as part of our culture
Feedback is not a one-off activity at ARENA. It is part of a way of working built on communication, approachability and ongoing support. Our regular follow-up meetings help us maintain this connection throughout the year and turn what we hear into opportunities for improvement.
Because supporting people also means understanding their experiences, recognising what they do well and helping them continue to move forward.
This is an important part of how we approach People & Culture at ARENA: staying close to our people, listening to what they need and working together to create a better experience every day.
